How do YOU learn it ?

It would be very nice if you could learn it on your own from just reading a book or talking to someone about it.  I liken it to learning to drive a car. The Alexander Technique has to be learned experientially and the best way to do that is by having one to one lessons so you can learn to use the technique by yourself.

You start by working with simple movements and positions such as standing, sitting, walking or bending the knees, which are basic to all activity. Then through observation and experience, you learn how your coordination works – how you create tension and how you can prevent or release it.
How many lessons are needed?

Lessons are usually one to one and last 40 minutes.

The number of lessons you take will depend on your particular needs and goals which would be discussed in the first lesson. Everyone learns in different ways and at different speeds, but learning the Technique always involves changing long-standing habits so improvement relies in part on your commitment. Eight to ten initial lessons will usually make a difference. Regular refresher lessons are encouraged for on-going self discovery and to maintain long-term benefits.
